about

Jonny Barefoot (from Toronto, Canada) draws influence from Country Blues legends like Mississippi John Hurt and Leadbelly and Folk icons like Bruce Cockburn and Bob Dylan to create music that has been called 'Country Soul'. Music that is at the same time old-spun and traditional and fresh and new. A Different River, paints a vibrant picture of his life with songs about beauty, inspiration, a levitating woman and a visit from the ghost of his deceased father, to name a few. Recorded in the cozy confines of Casa Ochiai in Tokyo, Japan by Jimmy Binks and the Shakehorns bandmate, Julian Peters, Jonny wanted this album to capture the sparse and intimate solo performer quality of one of his live shows. They went just a few harmonies and backing vocals beyond that but, by-and-large stayed true to the flow of A Different River.
